18-24 and 25-34
Spring
69%Popular with age groups
35-44, 45-54, 55-64, and 65+
It is also interesting to note that a significant bulk of the respondents came from age groups 45-54 years old and 55-65 years old. Spring, a traditional mattress material, may appeal more to the older age groups than a new mattress technology such as memory foam.

Key Findings
Age Influences Mattress Choice
Age may play a role in the type of mattress selected. Since the bulk of the respondents were from older age groups, it is quite expected of them to purchase the more traditional option that has established itself in the mattress industry for years now.
Younger age groups, on the other hand, are technology-savvy and possibly more open to new mattress technologies.
Memory Foam Is Still Gaining Popularity
It is also important to note that memory foam mattresses are currently dominated by mattress-in-a-box companies in Australia. Mattresses-in-a-box only started gaining popularity in the last 3-5 years – tying it with the finding that most people who own spring mattresses have had it for 5 years or longer.
Conversely, people who own a memory foam mattress are more likely to be new owners whose mattresses were bought from recently-launched mattress-in-a-box companies.
